Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On March 17, 2025, at approximately 1:06 p.m., the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a theft that occurred at a local gas station in Wheatley involving a motorist who failed to pay after fueling.
Upon investigation, and through the review of video surveillance footage, the accused, a 48-year-old male from Romney Township, was located and arrested on March 18, 2025, in the town of Wheatley.
The individual was charged with the following:
– Theft Under $5,000
He was released with conditions and issued a scheduled court date for April 14, 2025. However, the individual failed to attend court on this date and an endorsed warrant was issued for his arrest.
On May 7, 2025, the accused was arrested on the strength of that warrant by the Leamington Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). He was released and required to attend court, on June 6, 2025, for fingerprints and for a scheduled court date of June 9, 2025. Despite this, the accused again failed to attend their scheduled court appearance. A new warrant was then issued.
On July 8, the accused attended court for his court appearance and was re-arrested and charged with the following:
– Failure to Comply with Appearance Notice – Court/fingerprints
He was released with a future court date of July 28, 2025.
