Chatham-Kent man charged in child exploitation investigation

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 41-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing several charges following an Internet child exploitation investigation that began in late 2024.

In November, the Chatham-Kent Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit received information from the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children that a local resident was sharing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on the social media platform Kik Messenger.

In January 2025, police executed a Criminal Code search warrant at the man’s residence, seizing several electronic devices. Following forensic analysis, police allege the man had also been purchasing CSAM through various online means.

On July 29, the accused was charged with possession of child pornography, accessing child pornography and making child pornography in written format. He was arrested and remains in custody pending a bail hearing.

The investigation is ongoing.

Chatham-Kent police are part of the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet, working in partnership with other Ontario police services and international law enforcement agencies. The ICE Unit’s work is supported by a grant from the Ministry of the Solicitor General.
