Michael Johnston

With heavy but peaceful hearts we announce that Michael James Johnston passed peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s just shy of his 75th birthday.

Mike, your remarkable life was filled with love, support and strength that will forever inspire us.

We’re grateful for the time we had and comforted that your suffering has ended.

Your life will forever live on in the hearts of your loving wife Jackie (nee Counsell) and your dearest daughters Jennifer (Zachary) Glover and Karen (Kevin) Slater.

He was a proud and devoted Buppa, who never missed a hockey game or an opportunity to support his grandkids, Gracie and Garrett Glover and Kylie and Kara Slater.

Mike was a lifelong farmer in Port Lambton who was born to the late James and Theresa Johnston and grew up with his brothers Garry (Charlene) and the late David on the family farm.

Many will remember him from his years working at H.E. Vannatter, coaching his daughter’s baseball teams, playing cards with the gang or spending his retirement fishing and boating.

To all the MGM nursing home staff, you were the angels in his last chapter of life. We are forever grateful for everything you have done.

Family and friends are invited to gather together for visitation at the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg (519-627-3231) on Friday, August 8, 2025 from 11am until 12:30pm. Following visitation his Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians Church at 1pm.

If you wish to make a donation in his memory, please consider supporting the Alzheimer’s Society, who assisted Mike through his battle with the disease. Cherished stories and tributes may be left for the family at www.CavanaghFuneralHome.ca.
