Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Two Chatham youths are facing drug trafficking charges after police responded to reports of masked suspects with weapons at a large party in Raleigh Township early Saturday morning.
Chatham-Kent police say officers were called to a Dillon Road residence shortly before 2 a.m. on Aug. 23, where a large end-of-summer gathering was underway. Partygoers told police that uninvited individuals wearing ski masks had shown up and caused disturbances. Witnesses reported that knives were drawn on several people, and a black handgun was seen falling from one suspect’s clothing.
The suspects were not known to the hosts and are believed to have learned about the event through social media, police said. They fled in a silver vehicle after being confronted by the property owner.
While officers were interviewing witnesses around 2:30 a.m., the vehicle returned to the area. Police conducted a high-risk traffic stop and detained two male occupants. A search of the vehicle uncovered a bag containing individually packaged controlled substances, a scale and packaging materials, police said.
Two 17-year-old Chatham residents were charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. They were released with conditions and are scheduled to appear in court Oct. 15.
Police say the investigation into the gathering remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Chatham-Kent police at 519-352-1234.
