The Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Association is celebrating a smooth start to its 75th season, with players, families and volunteers filling the Walpole Island Sports Complex during the first week back on the ice.
The association said it was especially meaningful to welcome new and returning players, along with the many volunteers who help with registration, scheduling, coaching and on-ice instruction.
A highlight of the week came as U6 and U7 Lakers picked up free equipment kits and took their first strides on the ice.
At the instructional level, many parents have stepped into coaching roles for the first time, guiding young players who range from fearless to hesitant beginners. The association noted that while most volunteers are not professional coaches, they bring patience, energy and a commitment to helping new skaters develop.
Officials are encouraging families and fans to recognize the efforts of volunteers, whose work behind the scenes makes the program possible.
“We are very excited for the season ahead with many great volunteers supporting our players,” the association said.
