The Harvest Moon Pow-Wow will return to Bkejwanong Territory this weekend, bringing two days of dancing, drumming and celebration to High Banks Park.
Gates open at 10 a.m. Sept. 13 and 14, with grand entries scheduled for noon both days. Admission is free.
This year’s gathering will feature head veteran Paul Williams, head elder Verna Aquash, head dance judge Lisa Hill and arena director DJ White Jr. Host drum Crazy Spirit will be joined by invited groups including Charging Horse, Eagle Flight, Bear Creek and Snake Island.
Head dancers include Jenica Greenbird, Dustin Aquash, Miley Soney and Cole Shipman. Specials include a head junior female dancer performance by Miley Soney, a women’s dance special and a youth woodland competition for dancers 17 and under.
Dancers will compete in categories ranging from tiny tots to golden age, with prize money available in multiple divisions. A new adults woodland category has been added this year.
The pow-wow is a drug- and alcohol-free event.
