FreeHelpCK is preparing to cook and deliver 101 homemade Thanksgiving meals to local seniors who are 65 and older and are alone with no family support or unable to get out. The volunteer group said it hopes to increase the number of meals but needs community support to make it happen.
On Thanksgiving Day, volunteers deliver more than food. They bring a smile, a warm visit, and a reminder that seniors are valued and not forgotten. FreeHelpCK said the cost of each meal is $10 and donations are needed to cover the cost of turkeys, cranberries, potatoes, carrots, hamburger for stuffing, and pies for dessert.
New this year, if enough support is received, the organization hopes to provide turkey food boxes for struggling families to prepare their own holiday meal together. Sponsoring a family costs $50.
Donations can be made by e-transfer to freehelpck@gmail.com, online at FreeHelpCK.ca, or by cheque to FreeHelpCK. Pick-up or drop-off of cheques can be arranged at 35 Oxley Drive in Chatham due to the mail strike. Tax receipts are available.
Businesses interested in helping can contact gerih@freehelpck.ca.
FreeHelpCK said together, the community can put a smile on every senior’s face and help struggling families this Thanksgiving.
