Sarnia Police Service officials allege: Police responded to a robbery complaint on Maxwell Street around 8 p.m. on September 29, 2025, after a man reported that his recently adopted dog had been taken during a confrontation.
The 42-year-old victim told police he was out walking his new pet when he was approached by a man who claimed the dog was his. The man allegedly threatened to assault the victim if he did not hand over the animal. The victim stepped back to avoid violence, and the suspect unhooked the leash before fleeing southbound with the dog.
Officers arrived within minutes and later located both the suspect and the dog behind a building in the 400 block of London Road. The suspect was arrested, and the dog was safely returned to its owner.
A 27-year-old Sarnia man has been charged with robbery and was held for a bail hearing. Following his court appearance, he was released with conditions not to contact the victim or be within 25 metres of them.
Police noted this marks the man’s ninth arrest and 16th criminal charge since October 2024.
