Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A man has been taken into custody following a lengthy standoff with police in Wallaceburg early Saturday morning.
Chatham-Kent Police said officers were called to a residence on Wallace Street around 2 a.m. after reports of a man threatening people with a weapon. When officers arrived, the man barricaded himself inside the home.
Police secured the area and called in the Emergency Response Team. Negotiations continued for several hours before the man was taken into custody around 3 p.m.
Police said the man sustained an injury during the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Because the man was injured during an interaction with officers, the province’s Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate. Chatham-Kent Police said they will not be providing further information while the SIU investigation is ongoing.
