Firefighters from the Walpole Island Fire Department contained a large corn field fire Monday night on Corn Crib Road before it could spread to nearby homes.
Officials said quick action and strong teamwork prevented the blaze from crossing the road and threatening a nearby residence. Crews spent several hours battling the flames before bringing the fire under control.
“It was a long and challenging operation, but our crews worked hard and came out successful,” the department said in a statement. “All apparatus and personnel are now back at the hall and ready for the next call.”
No injuries were reported. The department thanked residents for their continued support following the incident.
