Record-breaking Handbags for Hospice raises $38,150 for local hospice care

A sold-out crowd of 300 guests helped make this fall’s Handbags for Hospice event the most successful yet, raising a record $38,150 for the Chatham-Kent Hospice.

Held October 16 at the Everest Convention Centre, the fundraiser featured 12 games of bingo with designer handbags as prizes, a raffle table with items donated by local businesses and community members, and a Platinum Purse Draw for a Michael Kors weekender bag and accessories.

“We are so thankful to the planning committee and the community for their support of Handbags for Hospice,” said Brock McGregor, executive director of the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation. “A special thank you to those who sponsored handbags in memory of loved ones. Over seven years, Handbags for Hospice has raised more than $233,000 to support families facing end of life. These funds ensure our residents and their families receive compassionate care and grief support—at no cost to them.”

The event was hosted by a dedicated group of volunteers and continues to grow in popularity as one of the hospice’s signature fundraisers.

The next Handbags for Hospice event will be held April 16, 2026, followed by the fall edition on October 15, 2026. Updates on ticket sales and event details can be found on Facebook at @handbagsforhospice.chathamkent.
