Police respond to person in distress in Ridgetown

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Chatham-Kent police say a youth was safely taken into custody after officers responded to a call for a person in distress Monday morning.

Police were called to the Church Street and Main Street East area around 10:43 a.m. on Nov. 17, where there was a heavy emergency services presence. Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Medical Services assisted as officers communicated with the individual to ensure their safety.

After a period of negotiation, the youth was apprehended without incident.

Police say there was no risk to public safety at any time and thanked residents for their patience and cooperation as emergency crews brought the situation to a safe conclusion.
