Relationships matter

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

It’s been said that distance and time are the two wedges that separate relationships.

A military leader once came up to Jesus to ask for His help on behalf of a sick soldier.

I like Jesus’ immediate response, recorded in Matthew 8:7: “I will go and heal him.”

Please notice that our Saviour didn’t say He would send a text or a voicemail, or that He would try to find time later when His schedule wasn’t so busy.

No, His immediate response was to actually go to this person in need.

I’m not saying that a text message is wrong, but sometimes relationships garner a deeper level of contact if they are to be viewed as important.

When we place value on someone in our life, we should want to close the gap that distance causes or shorten the time we have to wait until we can be together.

I realize that doing this is not always possible.

Our loved ones sometimes live in far away places due to their job or family situation and getting together isn’t a simple task.

I remember back in 2014 when our daughter, Beth, was away in Bolivia on a mission trip for three months.

There was no cell phone coverage or internet where she was situated in the mountains.

My wife and I found it so difficult to be without contact for that time and needed to just pray and trust God that she would be reunited with us soon.

I want to encourage you today to reach out to the special person in your life whom you have not seen or spoken to in a while.

Do it TODAY!

Don’t wait for a funeral to force your hand.

Your action sends the message that your relationship with them matters.
