CKPS locates missing Wallaceburg senior after coordinated search

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: The Chatham-Kent Police Service says an 88-year-old Wallaceburg man reported missing Monday morning was safely located following a rapid, coordinated search involving officers from across the municipality.

Police were contacted around 10:25 a.m. on Dec. 8 after the man failed to arrive for a scheduled appointment at a patient-centred care clinic on Queen Street in Chatham — something staff said was extremely unusual. Recognizing the urgency and potential risk to his well-being, officers immediately began efforts to find him.

Police visited several locations in Wallaceburg and followed his usual travel routes, gathering information and checking areas he was known to frequent. Investigators used a combination of timely intelligence, inquiries into the municipal CCTV system and other investigative techniques to narrow the search.

Officers soon identified the man’s vehicle travelling near Thamesville. Units from across Chatham-Kent converged on the area, and the man was eventually stopped on Ridge Line near Blenheim. Police confirmed he was in good health and arranged for him to be reunited with his family.

CKPS said the successful outcome reflects both the dedication of officers and the value of strong community partnerships and technology. The service thanked clinic staff, local businesses and family members who shared information that helped bring the search to a safe conclusion.
