Retail robbery investigation leads to arrest in Sarnia

Police were called to a Quinn Drive retail business on the afternoon of Dec. 18, 2025, following a report that a security officer had been assaulted during a theft.

Officers were told a man entered the store, selected a jacket and moved to another aisle, where security observed him attempting to remove a security tag. The individual then exited the store without paying, setting off security alarms. When security staff attempted to stop him, the man became aggressive, raised his fists and punched the security officer in the face. The officer was not injured.

Responding officers later located a man on Exmouth Street matching the suspect description. He was wearing the stolen jacket, with the security tag still attached, and was arrested without further incident.

Police say the 35-year-old, who has no fixed address, was on release for other offences at the time and was also subject to a probation order requiring him to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The individual was held for a bail hearing on charges related to robbery and failing to comply with probation, and was subsequently remanded into custody by the court.

Sarnia police noted the arrest marked the 26th interaction with the individual in the past year, involving multiple arrests and charges, including several for breaching court-imposed conditions.
