Impaired driving investigation results in multiple charges and mischief offence

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A Chatham man is facing multiple charges following an impaired driving investigation and an incident while in police custody.

On December 24, 2025, at approximately 4 a.m., a Chatham-Kent Police Service officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on St. Clair Street. A traffic stop was initiated, and officers noted signs of impairment. An Approved Screening Device demand was made and refused, and the driver also refused to provide identification documents.

The accused was arrested and transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where breath samples were later provided and registered as failed. During the investigation, additional offences were identified, including cannabis-related and traffic violations.

While being held in a cell, the accused intentionally damaged property and was further charged with mischief under $5,000. The accused is currently being held for bail.
