Snow squall warning ends in Chatham-Kent

Update: The snow squall warning has ended in Chatham-Kent.

Environment Canada is warning of a brief period of intense snowfall and blowing snow expected late this morning or this afternoon, with hazardous travel conditions likely.

The alert was issued at 11:16 a.m. EST Monday and carries a moderate impact level with high forecast confidence. Near zero visibility is possible in heavy snow and blowing snow, with snowfall amounts of up to five centimetres expected within one hour.

Environment Canada says a sharp cold front is forecast to track over the area, bringing a sudden and intense snow squall. A quick accumulation of up to five centimetres of snow is possible, along with a rapid drop in temperature that could lead to icy surfaces. Poor visibility is expected as strong northwesterly wind gusts accompany the snow.

Motorists are urged to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions, as travel is likely to be hazardous during the squall.

Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. Reports of severe weather can be sent by email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or shared on X using the hashtag #ONStorm.
