The Chatham-Kent Police Service is advising the public to avoid travelling on certain county roads due to deteriorating road conditions and extremely poor visibility.
Police say motorists are being asked to avoid Bear Line, Winter Line and Pioneer Line whenever possible as officers continue to respond to multiple calls for service. Visibility in rural areas has been reported as nearly impossible at times.
Drivers are being reminded to avoid unnecessary travel, reduce speed and allow extra space between vehicles. Police say anyone who must be on the roads should ensure their vehicle is winter-ready and carry emergency supplies, including a charged phone, warm clothing and a flashlight.
Police note that road conditions can change quickly and are encouraging motorists to monitor local weather updates and drive according to conditions.
Anyone requiring emergency assistance is asked to call 911. Non-emergency police matters can be reported by calling 519-352-1234.
