Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 42-year-old Blenheim woman has been charged after a suspicious residential fire in Blenheim last week.
Chatham-Kent Police Service, Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue and Medavie EMS were dispatched to a multi-dwelling structure fire at 83 Talbot Street East on Jan. 15, 2026. The building was occupied at the time, but all residents were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.
While fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze, police launched an investigation and quickly determined the circumstances surrounding the fire were suspicious. Investigators identified a woman believed to be responsible for setting the fire.
As a result of the investigation, the woman was arrested and charged with arson with disregard for human life. She was transported to Chatham-Kent police headquarters and remanded into custody, with a court appearance scheduled for Jan. 19, 2026.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service Major Crime Unit continues to investigate in conjunction with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office and Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue.
