Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A man wanted on an outstanding warrant was arrested in Chatham following a traffic stop connected to an impaired driving investigation dating back to 2021.
On January 20, 2026, at approximately 10:31 a.m., Chatham-Kent Police Service officers located a 46-year-old man from Howard Township on Grand Avenue West, where he was arrested on the strength of an endorsed warrant.
The warrant stemmed from an incident on July 7, 2021, when police responded to a driving complaint on Grant Street in Chatham. Officers were told a vehicle had nearly struck a construction sign. Police located the vehicle and driver and determined there were grounds to believe the driver was impaired by drugs.
Further investigation revealed the vehicle involved had been reported stolen, along with additional stolen property inside. The driver was transported to police headquarters for further testing, which resulted in a fail. He was charged at that time with impaired operation by drug, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and driving while under suspension.
The accused was released with a future court date, which he failed to attend, resulting in the issuance of a warrant. Following his arrest on January 20, 2026, he was transported to the South West Detention Centre, where he remains in custody pending a video court appearance scheduled for January 23, 2026.
