Mary Louise VanVaerenberghe of Wallaceburg passed away peacefully at the CKHA in Chatham on Friday, January 23, 2026 at the age of 87.
Mary was the daughter of the late Cornelius and Louise (Danekaert) VanBastelaar.
Beloved wife of the late Roger Marcel VanVaerenberghe.
Loving mother of Theresa Simpson (late Gary), Cathy Marcolin (late Roger), Darlene Heath (Ron) and Mike VanVaerenberghe (Sandra).
Cherished grandmother of Kristy, Lee, Lindsay, Ryan, Greg, Laura, Ben, Trevor, Jeff, Brittany, Chris and Brandon and 24 great grandchildren.
Predeceased by her brothers Alphonse, Cyril, Gerardus and Maurice VanBastelaar and sisters Elizabeth Ostachuk, Elsie Rottier and Annie Labadie.
Mary had retired from Libbey Glass and Dresden Canners.
She enjoyed gardening and was a 44 year member of the Catholic Women’s League and volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul.
Mary was a wonderful grandmother, following her grandchildren and great grandchildren in all of their activities.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation at the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg from 2-4 & 6-8 PM on Tuesday, January 27.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Our Lady Help of Christians Church on Wednesday, January 28 at 11 AM. Interment to follow at Riverview Cemetery.
