Sarnia Police Service officials allege: A 56-year-old Georgetown, Ont., man is facing charges including sexual assault and sexual interference following an investigation by the Sarnia Police Service involving a youth.
Police say they were contacted on Jan. 22, 2026, after a youth reported receiving an unsolicited and explicit image via text message from a family member. The youth attended police headquarters with a parent to report the incident. Investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division, working in partnership with the Children’s Aid Society, conducted interviews and launched an investigation.
As the investigation continued, police uncovered allegations of historical sexual abuse that is alleged to have occurred several years ago when the victim was a young child. Investigators also determined the accused was subject to multiple court orders, including a prohibition order and a family court order that restricted contact with children and regulated the use of digital communication. Police allege those orders were breached when the accused initiated unauthorized contact with the youth and transmitted the explicit image.
On Jan. 23, 2026, with assistance from the Halton Regional Police Service, members of the Sarnia Police Service Major Case Action Team executed a search warrant at the accused’s residence in Georgetown, where items were seized as evidence. The man was transported to Sarnia and remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
In addition to sexual assault and sexual interference, police say the accused is also charged with sexual exploitation, making obscene material, disobeying a court order and multiple counts of breaching a prohibition order. Police are not releasing the identity of the accused to protect the privacy of the victim and their family.
