Weapons charges laid following machete incident in Tilbury

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Chatham-Kent police are investigating a weapons-related incident after officers were called to a residence on Canal Street West on Jan. 27, 2026, at about 6:13 p.m.

Police say the incident stemmed from an ongoing neighbour dispute involving an intoxicated 42-year-old man from Tilbury who was armed with a machete. Officers learned the individual allegedly damaged a door while making threats toward a resident in an attempt to gain entry to the home.

As a result of the investigation, the individual was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief under $5,000, breaking and entering and committing an indictable offence, and assault with a weapon. He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters, where he remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
