Chatham-Kent man arrested in retail theft investigation

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 37-year-old Chatham-Kent man has been arrested following a theft investigation at a retail store in Chatham.

Police say officers were called to a store on Wellington Street West on Dec. 27, 2025, after merchandise was stolen. Investigators allege the accused selected multiple items, concealed them and passed all points of sale without attempting to pay.

The suspect was identified through surveillance footage, and charges of theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 were laid. A warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest.

On Jan. 30, 2026, at approximately 7:09 p.m., officers located the man on Wellington Street West and arrested him on the outstanding warrant. He was taken to police headquarters and released with conditions, with a court date scheduled for March 10, 2026.
