Sarnia Police Service officials allege: Sarnia police say a series of drug warrants executed earlier this month led to the seizure of a large quantity of controlled substances, cash and a prohibited weapon.
According to the Sarnia Police Service, members of the Drug Unit, assisted by the Emergency Response Team and the Intelligence Unit, executed three Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrants during the early morning hours of Feb. 5. Two of the warrants were carried out on Cotterbury Street and a third on Cromwell Street.
Police report seizing more than 268 grams of cocaine, hundreds of pills including morphine, hydromorphone, buprenorphine and codeine, as well as methadone, xylazine and a small quantity of ecstasy. Officers also seized digital scales, packaging materials, metal knuckles and $2,037 in cash. The estimated street value of the drugs is $76,959.
A 61-year-old Sarnia resident was held for bail and remanded into custody facing multiple counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, along with a charge of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. Police say the accused was already serving a conditional sentence order related to a previous drug trafficking conviction, and an allegation of breach has been submitted to probation.
Three other individuals were charged in connection with the investigation. A 50-year-old Sarnia resident was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on March 9, facing drug trafficking and weapons-related charges. A 38-year-old Sarnia resident was released on an undertaking and is to appear in court on March 10 on a charge related to possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking. A 36-year-old Sarnia resident was also released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on March 11 on a similar charge.
Police say they continue to target drug trafficking activity in the community and are asking anyone with information to contact the Sarnia Police Service or provide tips anonymously through Sarnia Lambton Crime Stoppers.
