LKDSB to offer virtual learning option for 2026–27 school year

The Lambton Kent District School Board will continue to offer a virtual learning option for students in Grades 4 to 12 during the 2026–27 school year.

In a notice issued Feb. 4, the board said students currently enrolled in virtual learning during the 2025–26 school year will be automatically pre-registered for virtual learning next year, while students attending in person will remain registered for in-person classes. Families who plan to keep their child in their current learning format do not need to take any action.

Parents and guardians who want to switch their child from in-person learning to virtual learning, or from virtual to in-person learning, must contact their current school by Feb. 27 to request a change for the 2026–27 school year. The board said the deadline is needed to support staffing and planning decisions.

The board also noted that proof of Ontario residency is required for students enrolled in virtual learning. Virtual schools will contact families during the week of Aug. 24 to arrange documentation, which must be confirmed by Sept. 11.

To maintain stable classrooms, the board said virtual learning is intended to be a year-long commitment. Families will generally not be able to move between virtual and in-person learning during the school year, although limited exceptions may be considered depending on space and availability. Virtual learners will be registered at McNaughton Avenue Public School for elementary programming and Lambton Kent Composite School for secondary programming.

Families with questions about their child’s registration are encouraged to contact their current school directly.
