Driver airlifted with life-threatening injuries after Walpole Island crash

OPP officials allege: One person is in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a single-vehicle collision on Walpole Island First Nation.

Emergency crews responded to the crash on Chiefs Road at approximately 5:53 a.m. on Feb. 21, 2026. Members of the Walpole Island Police Service and Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police, along with paramedics, attended the scene.

The driver, a 37-year-old male from Walpole Island First Nation, was transported by Chatham-Kent Emergency Medical Services to Chatham-Kent Health Alliance before being airlifted by Ornge to Victoria Hospital in London.

Chiefs Road was closed for several hours to allow for the investigation and has since reopened.

Police say the Walpole Island Police Service and Lambton County OPP, with assistance from the West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team, continue to investigate.
