Cornhole fundraiser raises more than $76K for Chatham-Kent Hospice

Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation says its annual cornhole fundraiser has raised more than $76,000 to support hospice care and bereavement services in the community.

The organization hosted its third Cornhole for Hospice event on February 21 at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre, bringing together teams for a day of competition and fundraising. The event raised $76,574 to support residential hospice care, care co-ordination and grief and bereavement programs across Chatham-Kent.

Presented by Glenn Seeds Ltd., the tournament featured teams of varying skill levels, with 50 two-person teams advancing to double-elimination play following round-robin matches.

In the top competitive division, a team representing CF Industries secured the championship title and a $500 cash prize. Another team competing under Shuck Dynasty earned top honours in the secondary bracket and received a $250 prize.

Other highlights included a 50/50 draw with an $820 jackpot, an Air Mail competition and recognition for top fundraising and team spirit efforts.

“We are so grateful for all of the teams who came out to support this event, as well as all of the donors and sponsors who made Cornhole for Hospice such a success,” said Brock McGregor Executive Director of the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation. “The community support we receive is fundamental to continuing to provide compassionate end-of-life care at no cost in Chatham-Kent.”

Organizers also acknowledged support from members of the local cornhole league, CK Dirty Birds, for providing equipment and assisting with tournament coordination.

Registration for next year’s event is now open, with additional information available through the event website.
