Lambton Kent District School Board has revealed the winning entries in its board-wide “Name Our Salt Spreader” contest, thanking students, staff, and community members for their enthusiastic participation.
Over several weeks, students submitted 83 creative names for the board’s salt spreaders, demonstrating humour, imagination, and school spirit. Community voting was open for six days, drawing 99,160 votes from students, families, staff, and local residents.
The winning names include Mr. Melt for the Sarnia-Lambton salt spreader, submitted by Mr. Corver’s Grade 6 class at Rosedale Public School, and Ice, Ice, Salty for the Chatham-Kent salt spreader, submitted by Mrs. Brown and Mr. Haley’s Kindergarten class at King George Public School in Chatham. Each winning class will celebrate with a pizza party, and the chosen names will be displayed on the corresponding salt spreader trucks this winter.
“We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who participated—from the students who offered such imaginative entries, the staff that encouraged participation in their classrooms, and to the community members who took the time to vote,” said LKDSB Director of Education Gary Girardi. “This contest was a fun way to bring our school communities together, and it was wonderful to see such high levels of engagement. Beyond the excitement, this initiative highlights an important investment that strengthens our ongoing commitment to providing safe, accessible learning environments for students, staff, and visitors across the district.”
The board said it is grateful for the community’s support and looks forward to seeing the newly named salt spreaders in action for the rest of the winter season.
