The Lambton Kent District School Board is inviting families to attend upcoming kindergarten open houses aimed at helping children and caregivers feel comfortable ahead of the next school year.
The board says the events are designed to focus on connection, comfort and community, offering families a chance to visit their local school, meet staff and explore classrooms in a welcoming, family-centred environment.
Children who will be four or five years old by Dec. 31, 2026, are eligible to attend kindergarten in the fall.
Open houses are scheduled for April 1, with times varying by school, and May 27 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Families can attend one or both events.
“Kindergarten is one of the most important transitions in a child’s life, and we want families to feel supported every step of the way,” said Ben Hazzard, superintendent of education. “Our Open Houses are about much more than registration—they’re about building relationships, helping children feel at home, and welcoming families into the LKDSB community. When you join us, you’re not just signing up for school—you’re becoming part of our family.”
During the events, families can visit classrooms, meet educators and support staff, explore play areas and learning spaces, and learn more about programming, including French immersion.
The board says families are encouraged to register online in advance but can also register during or after attending an open house.
“At LKDSB, we want families to feel the excitement and belonging that come with starting school,” Hazzard added. “The Open House is the beginning of a partnership that will support your child throughout their entire educational journey.”
More information, including school locations and registration details, is available on the board’s website.
