Michigan driver charged after impaired driving arrest at Bluewater Bridge

OPP officials allege: A 46-year-old driver from Michigan is facing impaired driving charges following an early morning incident at the Bluewater Bridge in Point Edward.

The Ontario Provincial Police said officers with the Lambton County detachment were called to the bridge by the Canada Border Services Agency just before 5 a.m. on March 1, 2026, regarding a possible impaired driver.

Following an investigation, the accused was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

Police said a 90-day administrative driver’s licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment were also issued.

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia on April 14, 2026.
