Two student nutrition programs from the Lambton Kent District School Board were recognized Thursday during the Ontario Student Nutrition Program – Chatham-Kent Fueling Our Future breakfast event.
School representatives highlighted the work being done to ensure students have access to healthy food and support at school.
Vice Principal Harwood shared details about the program at Tecumseh Public School, where staff and volunteers help make sure students begin their day with nourishment and care. Mr. Ostropolec from Tilbury District High School also spoke about the nutrition program at his school, describing how school communities are supporting student well-being through food and connection.
The Lambton Kent District School Board says it is proud to serve on the Local Planning Partnership for the Ontario Student Nutrition Program in Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton.
“Together, we work to ensure that every student has access to nutritious food that supports learning, focus, and a sense of belonging,” the board said in a statement.
According to the board, all 62 of its schools currently receive funding through the Ontario Student Nutrition Program, either as their primary funding source or as a supplement to existing school-run nutrition programs.
“This universal support means every student, in every community we serve, has access to healthy food at school. No barriers. No questions asked,” the board said.
The board says the programs are supported by school staff, students, community partners and volunteers who help operate nutrition initiatives across the district.
“We are deeply grateful for each and every one of them,” the statement said.
The board also noted that March is Nutrition Month and said it plans to highlight student nutrition programs, volunteers and events taking place across the district throughout the month.
“Because when a child is nourished, they are empowered. When they are supported, they are unstoppable.”
