Dresden man, 70, charged after police execute search warrant

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 70-year-old Dresden man is facing drug and weapons-related charges after Chatham-Kent police executed a search warrant at a home earlier this week.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said members of the intelligence unit, assisted by the Emergency Response Team, carried out the warrant at a residence on Holden Street on March 11.

Police said the warrant authorized officers to search the residence for firearms, ammunition and other evidence.

At about 6:07 a.m., Emergency Response Team officers arrived at the home and called the occupant outside without incident. A 70-year-old man from Dresden was arrested and taken to Chatham-Kent police headquarters. Officers said no other people were inside the residence when the warrant was executed.

Investigators conducted a search of the home and seized a crossbow, ammunition, about 17 grams of suspected cocaine, about 12 grams of suspected methamphetamine, digital scales, Canadian currency and a collapsible baton.

Police have charged the 70-year-old with two counts of possession contrary to an order under the Criminal Code related to the crossbow and ammunition, as well as two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act involving methamphetamine and cocaine.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

“The Chatham-Kent Police Service remains committed to community safety through proactive policing, enforcement and partnerships with residents and community organizations,” police said in a statement.
