Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 22-year-old Chatham man is facing impaired driving charges following a traffic stop by the Chatham-Kent Police Service on Tuesday night.
Police say officers were conducting mandatory alcohol screening on March 17 at about 9:46 p.m. when they observed a vehicle travelling southbound on Third Street at a high rate of speed. The vehicle entered an intersection at Wellington Street West on a yellow light and completed the turn after the signal had turned red.
Officers stopped the vehicle on Queen Street, where the driver showed signs of impairment and provided a roadside breath sample that resulted in a fail. Further testing at police headquarters confirmed blood alcohol levels over the legal limit.
The accused was charged with failing to stop at an amber light and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams. He was released with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court May 25, 2026.
