Charges withdrawn in 2023 Sarnia homicide case following evidentiary review

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: Sarnia Police Service say charges against the remaining accused in the 2023 homicide of Bradley Ogilvie have been withdrawn.

Police say the decision was made Thursday at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia by the Crown, which is solely responsible for determining whether charges proceed.

Authorities said the Crown has an ongoing obligation to assess cases as they move through the courts. In this case, two of the three accused had previously been committed to stand trial following a preliminary hearing.

However, police say that after the preliminary hearing and the death of a witness, the Crown continued its review and determined that, based on the available evidence, there was no reasonable prospect of conviction.

Police said the decision was made in consultation with the victim’s family.

The Sarnia Police Service said its investigation was thorough and that officers made every effort to pursue justice in the case.

Anyone with new information is asked to contact the Sarnia Police Service’s Major Case Action Team at 519-344-8861.

Police also extended condolences to the Ogilvie family.
