The Chatham-Kent Public Library is offering new accessible reading options, allowing cardholders to borrow specialized audiobook players from any branch.
Library members can now borrow a DAISY reader, including the Victor Reader Classic +, or an Envoy Connect 2 audiobook player, devices designed to support patrons with print disabilities.
Library officials say DAISY players are user-friendly tools that allow users to listen to books in audio format and are particularly helpful for those experiencing vision loss or other print-related challenges. The devices feature large, tactile buttons for easy navigation and can play more than 3,000 audiobook titles on CD available through the library system.
The Envoy Connect 2 is a lightweight audiobook player that does not require an internet connection. Each device comes pre-loaded with three DAISY-format audiobooks provided by the Centre for Equitable Library Access, offering several hours of listening. Titles are updated regularly to provide new content over time.
Officials say the collection is intended for users with a self-identified print disability.
More information about accessible collections and services is available through the library’s website.
