Chatham Coun. Michael Bondy has officially filed his nomination papers to run for mayor in the upcoming municipal election, submitting his paperwork on the first day of the nomination period.
Filing on Friday, Bondy said he wanted to signal his commitment to voters from the outset of the campaign.
“I want the voters to know my commitment to this municipality, and I can think of no better gesture than to make my intentions known from day one. I do not intend to wait to see who else is running before I commit — I am all in,” he said.
Bondy said his platform will focus on shifting municipal priorities toward strengthening local communities, improving transparency and refocusing on core infrastructure.
“Too much staff time and tax revenue has been spent on initiatives that have no positive impact on the lives of our taxpayers,” said Bondy. “I don’t just want to help the taxpayers’ wallets; I want to improve the quality of life for the silent majority that has put its trust in Council to spend wisely and prudently.”
He added that he plans to explore a reorganization of municipal departments, the creation of community councils and a comprehensive review and reprioritization of municipal spending.
Bondy had stated months ago that he intended to run for mayor.
