Mavis Kiyoshk

Mavis Noreen Kiyoshk, a member of Walpole Island First Nation, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at the age of 72.

Mavis was the daughter of Morris Aquash & Barbara Jane Kiyoshk. Beloved mother of Lionel Sands, Bayn Sands (Naomi), Bobbi-Jo Sands and the late Winston Sands. Dear grandmother of Codie, Kyle, Selena, Cooper, Sierra, Connor, Jonas, Arabella, Autumn, Wayde, Devin, Wesley, Shane, Jenna, Keira Rose and Killian. Sister to James Aquash, Clara Mae Kicknosway, Laine Tooshkenig, Noah (Jody) Shipman, Tommy Shipman, Wilfy Shipman Jr,, Lori Kiyoshk, Danny Shipman, Gail Kicknosway, Tina Aquash and Denise Aquash. Mavis was a social worker with Walpole Island Community and Social Services before her retirement. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, co-workers and pets Girlie and Junie. Mavis enjoyed Traditional Crafting and Pow Wows, quilting, beading and making sweet grass baskets and shoes.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation at the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg from 2-4 & 6-8 PM on Wednesday, May 6. The funeral will be celebrated at the Walpole Island Sports Complex on Thursday May 7 at 11 AM. Burial to follow at Highbanks Cemetery.
