Chatham-Kent Public Library is inviting patrons to “start a new chapter” with a new campaign aimed at removing barriers to access.
Beginning Monday, May 4, 2026, patrons can visit any branch to have old overdue fines cleared from their account.
The library says overdue fines can prevent people from using services and notes that, as of 2026, it has eliminated overdue fines on almost all materials. The “Start a New Chapter” campaign is part of ongoing efforts to make library services more accessible.
Through the initiative, patrons who have avoided the library due to outstanding fines are encouraged to return, update their accounts and resume using services. Staff will waive existing overdue fines during in-person visits.
Some limitations apply. Replacement charges for unreturned or damaged items are not eligible to be waived under the program.
The campaign will run until the end of Ontario Public Library Week on Oct. 24.
