Wheatley man suffers life-threatening injuries in Romney Township crash

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A Wheatley man suffered life-threatening injuries following a single-vehicle collision in Romney Township on June 12.

Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to the crash on Erie Street South at approximately 4:29 p.m.

Police said the investigation determined a vehicle driven by a 57-year-old Wheatley man struck a berm before becoming airborne and landing on the beach. No other vehicles or people were involved in the collision.

The driver was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was initially taken to Leamington District Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Windsor Regional Hospital for further treatment.

Due to the severity of the collision and the injuries sustained, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service Traffic Management Unit attended the scene and took over the investigation.

Erie Street South was closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene. The roadway has since reopened.
