Beach water testing underway in Chatham-Kent as first results released

Beach water testing has begun for the summer season as CK Public Health starts its routine monitoring of public beaches across the municipality.

Every summer between June and September, CK Public Health collects water samples from local beaches to test for E. coli bacteria. The health unit says the program is designed to help residents make informed decisions about swimming conditions throughout the season.

The first round of results is now available online. Officials note that beach water conditions can change quickly and that test results only reflect conditions at the exact moment samples are taken.

“Beach goers are encouraged to make an informed decision about beach quality in real time before you go swimming. YOU are the best judge of whether the water is safe,” the health unit said in its advisory.

Residents can view beach water quality updates and learn more about safety guidance online at CK Public Health beaches information.
