The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is temporarily expanding yard waste disposal and curbside brush collection services to assist residents cleaning up after the recent storm.
The Harwich Leaf and Yard Depot will open an additional day on Monday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. alongside its regular operating schedule of Tuesday through Saturday, giving residents more opportunities to dispose of storm debris.
The municipality is also expanding curbside brush collection in several communities. Residents of Blenheim and Erieau, who normally receive curbside brush collection, are asked to place tree limbs and brush less than eight inches (20 centimetres) in diameter at the curb. Collection will take place over the coming weeks as crews work through affected areas.
A one-time curbside brush collection is also being offered to residents of Shrewsbury, Erie Beach and Cedar Springs. Brush and tree limbs less than eight inches (20 centimetres) in diameter should be placed at the curb by Sunday, July 19, for pickup.
Residents are encouraged to place brush neatly at the curb without blocking sidewalks, roadways, fire hydrants or catch basins.
The municipality said it appreciates residents’ patience as crews continue storm cleanup efforts across Chatham-Kent. It said the additional services are intended to help residents safely and efficiently dispose of storm-related debris while municipal crews respond to increased demand.
