Walpole Island First Nation launches survey on custom election code

Walpole Island First Nation is asking community members to help shape the future of its election process through a survey exploring the development of a custom election code.

Chief and Council have launched a Custom Elections Act survey following recent community engagement sessions on the Indian Act election system and the First Nations Elections Act.

According to the notice, many community members expressed interest in exploring a custom Walpole Island First Nation election code. Officials say the survey is the next step in the process and that feedback will help guide the development of an election code that reflects the community’s values and priorities.

The notice emphasizes that no decisions have been made and that any proposed election code will be presented to the community for consideration before a future vote.

Community members are encouraged to complete the survey and share their views. Paper copies are available at the Governance Building from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding the noon to 1 p.m. lunch hour. Questions can be directed to the Governance Building by calling 519-627-1481.
