Young anglers will have a chance to compete for trophies and prizes later this month as the second annual Walpole Island First Nations Youth Derby returns to Highbanks Pavilion.
The event will take place July 18 and is open to children and youth ages 18 and under who are members of the Walpole Island First Nations community.
Registration will run from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., with participants competing in four age categories: six and under, seven to 10, 11 to 14 and 15 to 18.
Organizers say the first 100 participants to sign in will receive free worms, while those who pre-register will also be entered into a bonus draw.
The shoreline fishing event is being hosted by Resource Protection and Friends. Trophies and prizes will be awarded, and organizers encourage eligible youth to take part in the day of fishing and friendly competition.
