Sarnia Police Service officials allege: A 47-year-old Sarnia man is facing a lengthy list of firearms-related charges after police say a shotgun was discharged from his property, damaging a parked vehicle in the 1100 block of Overlea Crescent.
Sarnia police received a report on July 23, 2026, at approximately 8:50 a.m. from a resident who discovered multiple holes in the rear driver’s side door of their vehicle. During the investigation, another area resident reported hearing a loud noise, believed to be a gunshot, at approximately 10:40 p.m. the previous evening, and several neighbouring residents independently reported hearing a loud gunshot within the same timeframe.
Officers who attended the scene confirmed the damage was consistent with a shotgun discharge. Investigators determined the likely direction of travel of the shot and recovered shotgun wadding and shell components from the front yard of a nearby residence. The recovered evidence was consistent with a discharged .410-gauge shotgun shell and aligned with the trajectory of the damaged vehicle.
Police subsequently executed a Criminal Code search warrant at the residence, where officers seized six firearms, including a Winchester Model 37A .410 bore shotgun, along with .410-gauge and .22-calibre ammunition. Investigators also located a spent .410-gauge shotgun shell casing inside the residence.
The man was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm with intent, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, eight counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, six counts of possession of a firearm without a licence, and mischief under $5,000.
Investigators say they were unable to establish a motive for the incident, but believe the shotgun was discharged from the accused’s property, resulting in damage to the parked vehicle. No injuries were reported. The accused remains before the courts.
