With her family by her side, Alexandria “Alex” Spalding, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, at her residence in Port Lambton.
Alex is predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter Spalding (2023).
She is greatly missed by her daughters, Cheryl Spalding (Greg Knight) and Kim Allaer (Peter).
Beloved grandmother of Lyndsay Vink (Ryan), Alisha Allaer-Perkin (Mark), Lucas Allaer (Sylvie), Victoria Brand (Jordan Chenier), and Amelia Brand and great grandmother of Jaxon, Allie, Nathan, Kay, Betsy and Reggie.
Born on August 9, 1940, in Etobicoke, Ontario, to Audrey and Harold Saywell, Alexandria (“Alex”) lived a life centred on family, friendship, and caring for others.
While in high school, Alex met the love of her life, Peter Spalding. They married in 1962 and began building a life together filled with love and adventure. In 1965, they welcomed their first daughter, Cheryl. They moved to Wallaceburg where Peter took over Brander Pharmacy, later renamed Spalding Pharmacy. In 1967, they welcomed their second daughter Kim. Their home was always filled with laughter and love – one where family and friends always felt welcome.
Alex devoted herself to her family and took great pride in raising her two daughters. She was also a proud grandmother to five grandchildren and great grandmother to six great grandchildren, supporting and encouraging them throughout the years. She was known as “Gramamom,” not only to her own grandchildren but to many of their friends, becoming a cherished figure in the community. She could be seen driving her car with its “GRAMAMOM” license plate, picking up kids or driving them wherever they needed to go. She was always there. Her unconditional love for her family was her life’s greatest passion.
Peter and Alex enjoyed travelling the world together. In retirement, they spent many happy winters down south.
Alex had a remarkable gift with children. She generously shared her time through volunteer work at the Children’s Treatment Centre and in classrooms at D.A. Gordon Public School (1995-2007) and Riverview (2008-2016). Her caring spirit and genuine interest in helping young people left a lasting impression on many families.
Alex was a true social butterfly and had the ability to make friends wherever she went. She took a sincere interest in people of all ages and backgrounds, always eager to learn their stories and brighten their day with her infectious energy.
Alex had many passions. She was deeply involved with Little Theatre, both on stage as an actress and behind the scenes as a director. She also loved horseback riding, golf, and curling, embracing every opportunity to stay active and connected with others.
Alex will be remembered for her generosity, her joyful spirit, and the way she made people feel. Her legacy will live on through the family she adored, the friendships she made, and the lives she touched.

The late Alexandria Spalding rested at the Eric F. Nicholls Funeral Home Ltd. 639 Elgin St., Wallaceburg.
Following her wishes, cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026
at the Sydenham Curling Club from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
