Chatham Councillor Amy Finn brought forward a notice of motion at the August 10, 2026 council meeting calling for current community members of the Encampment Advisory Committee to remain in their positions through the 2026-2030 council term, should they choose to stay.
The motion notes that committees of council are normally appointed for a four-year term, but that applicants for the Encampment Advisory Committee were not chosen as successful members until after November 25, 2025.
The committee was created to improve dialogue between the community, local groups and the municipality regarding encampments.
According to the motion, its first meeting was a training session held on April 21, 2026, and the committee has met only four more times since.
The motion states that homelessness and encampments will remain an ongoing issue, and on that basis resolves that the community members presently on the committee continue with their appointments for the 2026-2030 council term, should they choose to stay.
