The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is reminding residents that the nomination period for the 2026 municipal election closes Friday, Aug. 21, at 2 p.m.
Nominations must be submitted using forms available on the municipality’s candidate information page and filed with the municipal clerk by appointment only. The nomination form must be signed by the candidate and accompanied by 25 endorsement signatures.
A nomination filing fee of $200 for the mayor’s position and $100 for councillor or school board trustee positions must accompany the nomination forms. Fees can be paid by cash, including debit, certified cheque or money order, and are refundable if a financial report is filed following the election.
Nomination papers can be obtained online or at the Civic Centre, 315 King St. W. in Chatham, or at any municipal centre.
Until candidates file a nomination, it is unlawful to raise campaign funds or incur campaign expenses.
