Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 33-year-old Belle River man is facing impaired driving charges after police say he was involved in a collision at a Chatham roundabout following a complaint from a local business.
On Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026, at approximately 9:09 p.m., police were contacted by employees of a business on Richmond Street regarding a suspected impaired driver who had left the establishment.
At approximately 9:27 p.m., police were called to a motor vehicle collision at the roundabout on Queens Line. Officers attended and located the driver, who was identified as the same individual reported earlier by the business.
Through investigation, officers formed grounds to believe the driver was impaired by alcohol. The man was arrested for operation while impaired by alcohol and transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters for further testing.
While at police headquarters, the man refused to provide breath samples and was additionally charged with refusal to comply with a demand.
As a result of the investigation, the man has been charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and failure or refusal to comply with demand.
The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date of Oct. 6, 2026.
