UPDATE: A 48-year-old Chatham man is facing charges after a lengthy standoff with police on Pine Street in Chatham that ended with his safe arrest.
On Aug. 31, 2026, at approximately 7:13 p.m., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to the area after receiving multiple 911 calls regarding an individual whose behaviour raised concerns for their well-being and the safety of others.
As officers continued their investigation, it was confirmed the individual was also wanted on an outstanding warrant in relation to a separate criminal matter.
The individual subsequently barricaded himself inside the residence. In response, specialized police resources, including the Emergency Response Team, Drone Support Unit, Crisis Negotiators and Incident Command personnel, were deployed to ensure the safety of the individual, responding officers and members of the public.
Police obtained judicial authorization to enter the residence, and after lengthy negotiations, the Emergency Response Team made entry, and the individual was taken into custody safely and without incident.
The accused was arrested on the outstanding warrant and additionally charged with mischief under $5,000. He is scheduled to appear in court at a future date.
Police say there is no ongoing risk to public safety in relation to the incident.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service thanked the public for their patience and cooperation during the incident.

Residents and motorists are being asked to avoid the area. Police say there is no threat to public safety.
